How To Wash Your Car Like A Pro

So do you really need to pay for a detailer to wash your car? After starting a mobile car detailing business in Stow Ohio and learning all things detailing, I have found there are several things that will take your basic wash to a professional detail. You don’t necessarily have to do every tip listed in this post, but a few can really improve the overall result. We want to wash our cars while reducing the least amount of damage possible.

We understand that cleaning your car can feel really good and relaxing! So we created a list of some important detailing tips for you if you enjoy doing it yourself.

Here Are 5 Tips To Improve Your Car Detailing Technique

  1. Maybe the most important thing is using a dedicated car soap. This will loosen the dirt from the paint while also providing the necessary lubricity to safely remove the dirt. Doesn’t have to be expensive, but a good brand like Meguiar’s will do the trick.

  2. Scrubbing the car from top to bottom is another important tip. This helps prevent scratches because the top of the car is typically a lot cleaner than the bottom. You don’t want to spread dirt from the bottom panels to the top if you don’t have to. Along with this method, it is recommended to rinse the wash towel after each panel or section of the car to get the dirt off and to keep it from scratching the paint.

  3. We like to use microfiber towels that are designated for the exterior washing only. Microfiber towels are designed to encapsulate dirt into the fibers to help prevent scratches. You can rinse your towels in a bucket of water, but we like to grab a new towel too.

  4. Even if the car is clean, the tiniest piece of dust can scratch the paint if you push too hard. If something doesn’t come clean with light pressure, you should try to use a different approach. For example, bug guts on the front fender can be extremely difficult to remove. We like to use a designated bug & tar remover or a degreaser to loosen the bugs and then a bug sponge to finish cleaning.

  5. A lot of people believe that washing your car in the sun is impossible. However, with the right products you can definitely do it and do it safely. The most important thing is to keep the car wet in between washing the panels and dry it as soon as everything is rinsed off.
